Winter in the Snowy Mountains

Skiing and Snowboarding: Jindabyne is a mere 30 minute drive from Thredbo and Perisher or visitors can arrive at the Ski Tube terminal is just 15 minutes for a quick ride to the Perisher Blue resort.

Thredbo

Skiing and Snowboarding: Thredbo has Australia’s longest runs and terrain to suit all levels. Beginners can enjoy the magic carpets and the gentle slope of Friday Flat to ease them into snow sports and gain confidence. Intermediates can enjoy the long, wide, tree-lined trails accessed by the quick chairlifts. Advanced skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the longest and most vertical terrain in the country as well as plenty of off-piste areas.

Snow play area: Thredbo snow play area is open daily for snow play and snowman building and is located near the Valley Terminal in the base area of the village.

Flare runs and fireworks: Flare runs for both adults and children are held weekly and can be both participated in or watched from the base of slopes or in the village. Please see the Thredbo staff for further information.

Ski museum: The Thredbo ski museum showcases a comprehensive collection of winter sports memorabilia taking you through history to show the progression in snow sports. The museum is open during July and August daily from 1.00pm – 5.00pm and weekends during June and September from 1.00pm – 5.00pm. Please note opening times may vary from time to time.

Back Country: With snow covered peaks in every direction the back country of the Snowy Mountains is always waiting to be explored. Amazing views, untouched snow and plenty of terrain awaits. Alpine touring skis and skins are available from Thredbo Sports Valley Terminal.

Snow Shoeing: Take a walk across the snow and enjoy the interesting features and landmarks of the Snowy Mountains. If you are feeling fit you can also trek to the top of Mt Kosciusko. Guided snowshoeing with rental and back country ski passes available at the Thredbo Sports Valley Terminal Office.

Perisher

Perisher is Australia’s most popular snow holiday destination and combines the areas of Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Mt. Blue Cow, Guthega as well as the Skitube Alpine Railway. Located in the picturesque Kosciusko National Park in NSW, it’s four resort areas provide varied terrain suitable for all ages and ability levels from first timer’s through to experts. Totalling 47 lifts including 1 eight seat, 7 quads, 4 doubles, 2 triple and 21 T-bars.

Snowboarding and Skiing: Perisher is a great place to enjoy winter sports with a huge amount of terrain suitable for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Perisher offers a variety of lift, lesson and rental bundles to cater to all of your requirements.

Night Skiing: Ski and Snowboard after the sun has gone down, one night per week during winter. Please contact resort for exact time.

Nordic Skiing: Explore the Snowy Mountains on a cross-country skiing adventure.  With over 100km of cross-country trails, Perisher is the perfect place to go for a cross-country slide.

Tobogganing and Tube Town: While tobogganing is prohibited on all Perisher ski slopes, they do have a dedicated toboggan slope located beside the Perisher Valley Car Park on Pipers Ridge where you can slide down the hill and play in the snow. Just a short walk to cafes, shops and restrooms, the tube town area is great for a fun family day.

Groomer Tours: Go behind the scenes with the groomers for a tour after the lifts close for the day and experience what it’s like to perfect the runs. Bookings can be made through the Perisher Valley Ticket Office.

Fireworks: Every week a fireworks display is held on Front Valley. Please contact resort for exact time.

Skitube: The perisher Skitube is a rack-rail train that takes passengers from Bullocks Flat on the Alpine Way up to Perisher Resort. The first stop is the underground station at Perisher Valley with the second and final stop at Blue Cow.

The Skitube provides easy and hassle-free access to Perisher and is only a 20km drive from Jindabyne.

Charlotte’s Pass

Charlotte’s Pass is Australia’s highest resort and features a broad range of accommodation options, reliable snow cover, as well as plenty of exciting on and off snow features. Situated in the heart of the Snow Mountains, Charlotte Pass Snow Resort offers ski-in-ski-out accommodation and facilities. Situated at the top of Australia at 1765 metres, Charlotte Pass is only accessible by Oversnow Transport.

Groomer Tours: Experience what it takes to groom the runs at Charlotte Pass Snow Resort with a groomer tour. Lasting for just over an hour the staff will take you through the steps they make to have the mountain looking fantastic each day.

Mount Stilwell Snow Experience: Taking you to watch the sun rise over the main range and allowing you access to first tracks down Mount Stilwell ready for the opening of the resort.

Weekly Flare Run: Watch or join the flare run held weekly for both adults and children.

Standard Race: A Charlotte Pass Snow Resort tradition, the Standard Race is your chance to show your stuff! The aim is simple, get within the instructors’ times.  Prizes and presentation held every Thursday.

Night Skiing: Night skiing and snowboarding under the stars on the Basin Poma every Wednesday and Saturday night.

Snowshoe Tours: A fun way to experience Charlotte Pass and the Snowy Mountains. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the top of Australia. The guide will show you some of the best scenery the Snowy Mountains has to offer.

Winter Festival: Your chance to soak up what Charlotte Pass Snow Resort has to offer. Activities include Flare Run, Outdoor Ice Bar, Free Tubin’ Tuesday, Standard Race and fireworks.
